Whether it’s a seasoned expert or a five-year-old, when confronted with a difficulty in the Torah’s text it’s nearly automatic to ask: “What does Rashi say?”

While Rashi will always offer the simple meaning of the words, a keen eye will recognize the depth and complexity needed to reach a simple conclusion. Or as the Israeli phrase goes: It’s not simple to be simple.

Starting in 1964, in the honor of his mother’s first Yortzeit, the Rebbe began developing a set of principles to understand Rashi - premised on Rashi’s words: “I’ve only come to explain the simple meaning to a five-year-old.”

We, at Chabad of Indiana, are proud to launch: Potential Simpletons, Studies In Rashi, a regular class which hopes to illuminate the journey to simplicity.
